Patti Jordan works on paper. She pours ink and pulls it across the sheet, then builds on the marks it leaves. Cosmogeny uses ink and iridescent powders. Cells/Selves are round works in ink, charcoal and graphite.
She received a 2024 New Jersey State Council on the Arts Fellowship and a Ford Foundation Award. Her solo exhibition Benthic Elegies was at The Center for Contemporary Art in Bedminster, New Jersey, in 2025. She holds a BFA from Pratt Institute and an MFA from Montclair State University.
Artist statement
Aligned with notions of “Becoming,” my art practice explores the self and the development of relational identity. My methods are fundamentally experimental, resulting in imagery that fluctuates due to elements of chance and unpredictability. I engage in a cathartic process of pouring and pulling fluid media across surfaces. The resulting reticulation and striations from this repetitive motion evoke nascent experiences and manifest as protean forms. I then employ change and transformation as frameworks for classifying and categorizing my works.
